ONLY KINDNESS MATTERS

            "He's gone..."  she tells me

                     her voice a flat monotone

 eighteen years old

 tragic car accident

a bright flame of life

snuffed out

just like that

                why?

                   Why?

                       WHY??

                At the peak of life

endless possibilities

new beginnings

second chances

no more

                and her...

slowly being taken

evaporating before my eyes

a shell of her former self

Her fluff of grey hair brushing against my cheek reminds me of a newly hatched chick I once saw on a bright Easter morning

feathered

soft

defenseless

        What can I say...

            nothing

She rests her head in the crook of my neck, her sobs remind me of a small lost child

the delicate outline of every one of her ribs palpable to my hand as I hold her close...

            "He's going to be ok"

            "He's going to be ok"

it comes out as a muffled escape from my lips as a single tear rolls down my cheek mixing with her puffs of hair

But do I really believe it?

Can I honestly say that I know for sure what happens when we leave this world and move on to the next??

                                                *Awake, my soul;
awake lyre and harp!
                  I will wake the dawn

        The answer is yes

           without a doubt,

YES

I hold her tight until the tears subside...

looking up, something outside the window catches my eye...

the chorus of flowers swaying in the breeze

     they

sing

of

Forever
