NO, I DON'T MIND....REALLY!!

Rule number one in the visiting nurse's handbook:

"One must always treat the client's home with the utmost respect and accommodation.  Remember,  we are a guest in their abode and at all times should strive to tolerate any minor inconveniences with a professional attitude and calm demeanor..."

So I don't mind really...

when your cat pounces on my back from behind and scares the living daylights out of me then starts pawing at my hair as she "just gets to know me"...
no, I don't mind really!

or... when you leave me standing out in the rain for ten minutes so you can watch the end of Jeopardy to see who the "grand champion" is this week...
I don't mind really

or... when your 46 year old son who lives in the basement and resembles an ax murderer I saw on TV one time stands too close to the knives in the kitchen and stares at me as I gather the last 20 years of your medical history...
nah, I don't mind really

or... when you leave a lit cigarette burning about two feet from my nose and it feels like my sinuses are about to explode.. because you are "trying to quit"...
I really don't mind

or... when your two little yappy dogs are playing tug-of-war with my shoe strings under the table and their little teeth feel like knives stabbing at my ankles.. cause they are "just so playful"...
oh no, I don't mind,  really

        But seriously,

I love my job. Look forward to getting up every morning to go to work.  Meet some of the nicest people.

        But sometimes....

REALLY???

ABBA (DADDY)

"Pick me up Daddy"

 about 4 years old...

I felt so high above the ground

he was a big bear of a man with

strong arms to

protect

lift

provide

Taught me to

tie my shoes

work hard

have a generous heart

always fight for the underdog

Now, years later, no longer that small child

    but still I say...

           "Pick me up Abba"

uphold me with your grace

lift me out of deep waters

teach me to work in your ways

give me strength to carry the downtrodden

form my heart to serve people in your name

Still the same

        forever different
I am

POISON SCHMIVY

I had been pondering it for months....probably since last year...

not sure how to approach it---

the poison ivy taking over my flower bed

especially since we (the poison ivy and I)  had an ugly encounter last summer--yeah and I had a bright red insanely itchy rash all up my right arm for a few months to prove it.

How do you get rid of something so threatening??

I asked around but nobody was much help...

...."my cousin got it and she had red blotches all over her face"

...."I once had it as a kid--it was so itchy and burned like crazy--now I'm allergic to plants"

...."hard to get rid of, that's all I know"

...."once you get it, the next time it's even worse"

I was dreading it.

Every day I would walk past my beautiful roses and there it was--

the three leaved monster--

mocking me...

taunting me...

we were in a standoff...

and so far the poison ivy was winning

There had to be a way....but

   I couldn't touch it

I couldn't spray it--did that last year and the whole rose bush died

I couldn't trim it--it would just come back even stronger like a
            horrible infection

Months went by...

Finally I had enough---it was now or never

I put on some industrial strength gloves I bought at the hardware store and went out to face the culprit.

I began pulling slowly at first..

       hmm,

strange how easily it succumbed, how thin and weak the branches were that held those foreboding leaves--

ha! there was not so much after all, behind that fierce image

I pulled faster and harder getting some strange pleasure and satisfaction

I was doing it!!

Now there was no stopping me!!

After several hours and two large garbage bags later, I looked around triumphant....

the magnificent pale pink blossoms on my rose bush were clearly visible.  Now I could actually see the whole bush

Yeah

poison ivy/poison schmivy

Note to self:

    Most things we

fear

dread

avoid

stew over

turn out to be nothing more than

spindly branched

overblown

cowardly

wimpy

THE WARRIOR PRINCESS

She always reminded me of a princess...

         a Warrior Princess

long shiny blackish hair

smooth brown skin

chiseled cheekbones

eyes like deep pools of midnight

even her name was exotic

I watched her from afar....

          learned her strategies

courage

resilience

purpose and drive

generosity and kindness

But no one knew the hidden battle she endured....

          until much later

                    how the enemy

manipulated her trust

held her captive

overpowered her

pierced her soul with arrows of shame

Yes, for a while.... my

          Warrior Princess was

     wounded

broken

fractured into tiny pieces of her former self

But now, once again, stronger than ever....

she rises

like

 a

Phoenix

treasured

delivered

she has overcome...

persevered

discovered her true worth

claimed her rightful place in the line of nobility...

anew and restored

now, my

victorious

Warrior

Princess
